Why This Drill Works

Chipping well is all about controlling the low point of your swing and making solid contact—two things this drill helps with immediately.

In the video, Tom sets up with all his pressure on his lead leg, shifting his center of gravity forward. That forward pressure helps move the low point of the swing in front of the ball—essential for clean, ball-first contact.

His trail leg? It’s there for balance only. By minimizing its role, he’s forced to stabilize and rotate around the front leg, just like we want in a proper chipping motion.

What to Look For

Pressure Forward: Tom keeps his weight over his front leg.

Minimal Wrist Action: He lets his body rotation do the work.

Low Point Control: Contact is ball first, every time.

Simple and Repeatable: No extra movement, just clean technique.

How to Try It

• Set up with the ball slightly forward in your stance.

• Put almost all of your weight on your lead leg.

• Keep the trail leg down lightly, just for balance.

• Make a short backswing, then rotate through the shot, keeping everything stable.

This is a great at-home or chipping green drill for improving contact and sharpening your short game.
